Blinds in a House Match

Should All Blinds in a House Match?

A common question that you may be asking yourself when you’re designing your home is what color and style should I use for my blinds and curtains? More importantly: should all blinds in a house match

There are so many different styles of blind and curtain that you can choose that the options might seem a little overwhelming. Between honeycomb shades, roller shades, wood and faux wood blinds, and blackout shades, and then all the different colors and materials, it’s only natural to wonder about which options are best for you and your home.

When making your decision, it’s important to think about two major factors.
The first is that you’re making a practical choice based on functionality and durability – for example, if you live somewhere really far north, you’ll probably want blackout shades for the summer.
The second factor is that you’re also making an aesthetic choice. In addition to being practical, your blinds should also complement the overall style of your house.

So, Should the Blinds in My House Match?

Ultimately, it is not necessary for all the blinds in your house to match. It’s much more important to have the blinds or shades match the individual rooms, but even then there are no rules. There are some clever ways to mix and match. If your rooms are painted in different colors and have different styles and themes, it would be much better to have different types of blinds to match them.

With this, it’s still definitely possible to have some coordination between blinds. Although you should absolutely tailor individual blinds to individual rooms, having some level of coordination and consistency across your home will go a long way to make your house look beautiful.

Of course, if you’d like to have all the blinds in your house match, this is absolutely something you’re able to do. This may be a good idea if you use similar colors across your entire house, or if each room in your home has relatively the same theme or style. However, if you have unique rooms and spaces, employing the same blind in each room can look a little clunky and unwieldy. We also caution against this strategy of having all blinds in a house match because of the different needs that each room has- you’ll probably care more about blocking light in bedrooms than you will in a living room, for example.

Use A Common Theme

Instead of fixating on the question should all blinds in a house match, we strongly encourage you to think about using a common theme to tie together your blinds or shutters. This way, you can tailor each individual blind or shutter to their own unique room and situation, while still maintaining consistency and continuity across your home. For instance, you could install classic shutters on your patio doors while utilizing plantation shutters on windows near the back patio to create some cohesion while not having it be boring.

Maintaining a Common Theme

The concept of a common theme may be a little difficult to visualize, so we’ve got a few tips for you that might help! There are a few different ways you can curate a common theme throughout your home when using blinds or other window coverings:

One of the easiest ways to maintain a common theme is to have a consistent color scheme. This holds true whether you use curtains, shutters, or blinds to drape your windows. Neutral tones tend to be best, as they can accommodate any other colors in your space. However, this does not necessarily mean that each blind has to be the same color (more on this later).

Another great way to ensure you maintain a common theme is by using the same type of material across all of your window treatments. There are many different options: you could choose to utilize wood, faux wood, fabric, or in the case of blinds, polyester or aluminum. Using the same type of material can really help create consistency across the home, while still allowing you to personalize each color and style to its own specific room.

Different Color Blinds in a House

Another common question is whether I can use different color blinds in my house. Although this is certainly a possibility, we recommend that you exercise some caution if you’re considering different color blinds. The downside of these is that, if chosen incorrectly, different colored blinds, shades, or shutters can appear a bit like patchwork which will limit your home’s overall curb appeal. However, that is not to say different color blinds should never be used, as different colors may go well with different rooms. At the end of the day, it’s all about your preference and whether or not the blinds match the individual rooms they’re going in.

If you want to have different colors of blinds but still care about maintaining a uniform look from the outside, this is entirely possible! You simply just need to make sure that the back of every blind or shutter is all the same color, like white, so as to avoid any mismatched appearance from the outside. This is a really creative way to maintain your home’s exterior curb appeal while still allowing for some creativity and customization on the inside.

It is just as equally common for customers to match the entire house as it is to mix and match. We’ve seen a fair share of both and both are just as eye-catching!

Often higher-priced products are accompanied with more economic products to balance out the price, keeping it more affordable. You don’t have to spend top dollar on every window, in every room!

Product themes in a home usually stay consistent by either room or level, front or back of the house. Each room has a different personality than the other, which is why you don’t always have to match all your blinds.

Often different products complement each other – such as the more expensive shutters and the more economic faux wood blinds.
